the pig slaughter…

finally discovered the truth

of the stolen sausage

Sandra Šamec:

This photograph I took last Winter, on one of my walks on the hills and through the woods of the region called Croatian Zagorje. I very much like Winter and snow, always looking for scenes of this season to take photos, which are then there during the whole year for me to enjoy.

While leaving my own tracks in the virgin snow, I avoided any human tracks. Then, on my path there appeared some small and dense animal tracks. Whose paw prints are they? I was not sure… feeling pretty joyful, I thought they were made by a rabbit. I watched the long winding line disappear into the distance. I took a photograph to record this moment in time. For some time I followed the paw prints and then continued my way on my own path. During the Summer time, just one look at this photograph would return that feeling of Winter to me.

Franjo Ordanić:

After many years, again I gave a helping hand at the annual pig slaughter done in the traditional way, a good reason for our large family to get together. The first day four pigs were slaughtered, each about 200 kg. We sliced the bacon and made some sausages. The second day the lard was heated and melted and the meat was minced in preparation for more sausages. The third day we filled the sausage skins and hung the sausages in the smokehouse. The fourth day we cleaned and washed all of the utensils, equipment and the tables. In a good mood with jokes and with a glass of wine now and then, time was passing by quickly and the hard labour became a joy. The house pets were with us all the time, watching every movement, waiting patiently…

Sandra’s photograph reminded me of the time when we accused somebody of playing a prank …
