discarded pines
graphite amazement
human coldness

The pre-Christmas rush. Besides trees grown for the market, whole young pine woods are being cut down, as well. This makes Christmas time sad. Even gloomier are the sights of the discarded Christmas trees after Twelfth night. On the whole we lack any awareness of the problem, if we were more aware we would buy Christmas trees planted in pots. Thus countless young firs and spruces end up as compost, which can be attained from other kinds of waste.
A photograph by my husband one early morning, January 6, 2022, inspired me to write this haiga.
